It is with profound sadness that the family announces that Eric James VanSteenbergen, 35, passed away tragically and unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident in Yucca Valley, CA, on September 27, 2022.
Eric was born at New Milford Hospital on November 13, 1986, and grew up in Bridgewater, CT. From a young age, Eric enjoyed adventure and sports - soccer, football, BMX racing, and others. He graduated from Shepaug Valley High School in 2005 and went on to WyoTech in Ormond Beach, FL. He returned to CT and worked as a mechanic, then a facilities technician, before moving on to follow his life's passion of skydiving.
Eric did his first jump in 2012 and became a certified skydiving instructor in 2015. He traveled the country, making an impact on all who met him. Working at drop zones across the US and at iFly (NY & Chicago), his adventurous spirit and positive attitude was magnetic. His smile could light up the darkest day. Branding himself as "Fly Easy," he lived his life to the fullest, doing what he loved most - skydiving and creating strong bonds with people who shared his passion.
He is survived by his loving parents, Ann & Kurt VanSteenbergen (Bridgewater, CT), sister Jennifer Benvenuto & husband Marc (Sandy Hook, CT), brother and wife Jon & Lindsay VanSteenbergen (Brooklyn, NY), and two adoring nephews, Ryan Gillinger and Lennon VanSteenbergen, who lit up when "Uncle E" was in the room. He is also survived by many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins who will miss him deeply.
Family and friends are invited to bring your memories and stories to a gathering to remember Eric on Sunday, October 23rd, between 3 & 8 pm at the Bridgewater Hilltop Center (132 Hut Hill Road, Bridgewater, CT).
