DuWayne Costa Obituary

We are sad to announce that on July 16, 2022, we had to say goodbye to DuWayne Thomas Costa.

DuWayne was known for being kind, gentle, and respectful. He had a smile for all. He was accomplished and loved adventure.

DuWayne was a man of faith. He completed his First Communion at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and attended mass without fail. He knew how to clasp his hands in prayer and hummed to the music. Later in life, he took communion from his medical bed. Every day, his mother, Dolores Costa, read to him from their favorite devotional, “Faith to Faith.”

He was a known adventurer who took daily walks with his mother, Dolores. She guided his wheelchair as they explored the neighborhood and beyond.

DuWayne attended special education schooling up to the age of 18. While at school, he participated in the Special Olympics and brought home three medals. He was a Skill and Courage Special Olympics Champion.

He liked chocolate milk “la la la” that was served in his Mickey Mouse glass. He was fascinated by the Puppy Dog Pals and enjoyed playing with his Sesame Street puppets and fire red car.

DuWayne had pet birds throughout his lifetime, including Kiki. DuWayne and his pet, Kiki, have been best friends since 2001, and she misses him.

DuWayne was delighted to watch hummingbirds in flight as they sprung off the feeders surrounding his home. The sun started rising as he was driven away from his home for the last time. Flocks of birds flew out of the trees into the sky and burst into song. It was an orchestra, and the music was sweet. As soon as DuWayne left, the music stopped. The sky turned blue, calm and silent.

DuWayne is survived by his mother, Dolores Costa, a beloved pet, sisters, and brothers.

His mother wishes to have DuWayne’s name mentioned during regular mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rancho Cucamonga. This is called a Mass Intention for the repose of his soul. This request was made by his mother for Sunday, August 07, 2022, at 7:00 a.m. Her wishes are for simplicity so that all can remember DuWayne in prayer from their homes. No matter how dark the days, DuWayne was a ray of sunshine to his mother, Dolores Costa. Thank you, Jesus.
