Annie Smith Obituary

Annie Louise Smith was born on January 20, 1935, to the parents of George and MaryBell Fonvielle, in Greenville, North Carolina. At the age of 85, she entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 26, 2020.

On March 26, 1959, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Harvie Lewis Smith, Sr. With this union, they were blessed with two loving children, Annita Carter and Harvie Smith, Jr. From the moment Annie joined hands in marriage and became blessed with Annita and Harvie, Annie dedicated the rest of her life to be a devoted wife and mother. When Harvie Lewis Smith, Sr. passed in 1969, she committed herself to the role of single motherhood and worked selflessly to provide and support her children.

Annie was a tenant of Santa Ana for over 40 years, which is where she raised her children and where she eventually resided with her long-term domestic partner Al Calhoun. In the early 2000s when Al fell sick with Alzeheimer’s and moved to the east coast to live with his daughter, Annie relocated to Riverside, CA to be closer to her family. At her early age, she worked for several years as a maid in various hotel chains, then later resumed a part-time position as a babysitter, until settling down as a homemaker in her late years.

Annie was a loving sister, mother, and grandmother who prided herself in putting family first. She loved telling stories to make people smile and laugh. Annie was a stickler about cleanliness, and it was a known fact that you could not sit on or near her bed unless you could prove you had adequately washed. Annie possessed a passion for caring for her collection of dolls. In her spare time, Annie enjoyed spending time with her daughter and grandchildren, crafting delicious family meals, going to the movies, knitting and watching her favorite soap operas, Lifetime movies, and Nick at Nite shows.

Annie leaves to cherish her beloved memories: Sister, Mattie Hunter of North Carolina; Brother, Robert Fonvielle of North Carolina; Daughter, Annita Carter of California; Five Grandchildren – Saleena Smith of Oregon, Stephanie, Danielle and Brittany Carter of California, and Tiana Ferkey of New York; Five Great Grandchildren – Ysreal and Daniel Herndon of California, Hayzel, Hanna and Hunter of Oregon.
